Cancer of the corpus uteri, or endometrium, is the fourth most common invasive cancer among women in the United States. It is estimated that in 2007, 39,080 new cases of endometrial cancer will be diagnosed and 7,400 women will die of the disease. The incidence of endometrial cancer declined from 1975 to 1988, increased slightly over the next decade, and again has begun to decline. The mortality rate has remained stable since 1992. Although average incidence rates for white women were higher than for black women, the mortality rate for black women was nearly double that of white women.
