What is a stroke?

A stroke occurs when the blood flow is stopped for longer than a few seconds in the brain is called brain attack.

Different types of strokes?

2 different types of strokes are there.

  1. Ischemic stroke
  2. Haemorrhagic stroke

1) Ischemic stroke: It is the most common type of stroke. Mainly it is caused by a blockage of the blood in the brain. This stroke comes due to hardening and blood blocking a blood vessel.

In this 2 types of stroke are there:

  • Thrombotic stroke
  • Embolic stroke

a) Thrombotic stroke: Mainly it is caused by a blood clot in one of the neck or head. The thrombus may be an effect of a build-up of full of fat deposits in the blood vessels.

b) Embolic stroke: Mainly it is caused when a blood blockage that forms in a different place in the body the chambers of the heart through the circulatory system to the brain.

2) Haemorrhagic stroke: Mainly it occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts, allowing blood to leak and cause damage to an area of the brain.

In this 2 types of stroke are there:

a)Subarachnoid haemorrhage: It occurs in the space around the brain.

b) Intracerebral haemorrhage:  The more common type, which involves bleeding within the brain tissue itself

Symptoms of stroke:

The stroke usually appears suddenly. The person may feel sick, and looks very unwell.

  • Sudden headache
  • Loss of speech
  • Numbness, paralysis on one side of the body and weakness
  • Speech problems
  • Trouble walking, Loss of balance, Dizziness and coordination
  • Blurred, blackened

Reduce your risk of stroke:

  • Stop smoking.
  • Reduce alcohol intake.
  • Exercise regularly. Exercise strengthens the heart and improves circulation.
  • Eat a healthy diet.
  • Control blood cholesterol.
  • Control diabetes
